About Mike Fury

Darren Shahlavi passed from natural causes

The family of the late martial arts actor, Darren Shahlavi, has confirmed that he tragically died of natural causes on 14 January 2015, a sudden and fatal heart attack. I was (and still am) extremely saddened about Darren’s passing. He was a wonderful person, a great talent and real source of inspiration for many. What’s more, he was just reaching the cusp of greatness, having recently appeared in several prolific films and increasingly strong roles, which reaffirms the tragedy of this great artist lost far too …

Midnight Run: Interview with writer George Gallo

George Gallo is a highly accomplished writer and filmmaker, best known for his work on major box office hits and fan favourites like Wise Guys, Midnight Run and Bad Boys. Beginning as a successful screenwriter, he also transitioned into filmmaking when he wrote and directed 29th Street which kicked off a new chapter in his career. He has since produced and directed a number of prolific projects, while pursuing art and music. As a writer, Gallo’s scripts are sharp, punchy and, for anyone who has seen the films listed above, …

Interview with Film Combat Syndicate

Here’s an interview I did with Film Combat Syndicate discussing my book, Life of Action. Thanks for having me! They wrote: “It’s a new generation for the genre, far more different than the glory days it saw earlier in the last four decades, but the love for the craft is still there as well as the fandom, and the continued growth of the connectivity of the audience. UK choreographer/actor Mike Fury is no stranger to the voices among the crowd, …

Jason Momoa on the Road to Paloma

I’m a big fan of Jason Momoa. The star of Conan the Barbarian, Game of Thrones and Bullet to the Head has more than proven his acting and action chops and played an interesting range of roles throughout his career, from heroes, villains, barbarians, even warriors with a vulnerable side. Plus, the props he’s received from action teams like 87Eleven really cements the image of true, hardworking talent. It’s great to see someone with that mindset and work ethic doing so well and it …

Terracotta’s Classic Kung Fu Collection

Terracotta Distribution is going from strength to strength with the next release in their relatively new “Classic Kung Fu Collection” already announced. The label has been filling something of a void right now, unearthing forgotten gems from the vaults of late night Kung Fu cinema, and in some cases giving these titles official DVD releases for the very first time! Previous releases include Hero of Shaolin (starring Alexander Lo Rei) and The Shanghai 13 (starring Jimmy Wang Yu and Andy Lau). The third title …

My “Best Action Hero of All Time”

Michael Beck in The Warriors

Big thanks to The Action Elite for including me in their feature “The Best Action Heroes of All Time”. They asked many different people about their favourite genre protagonists and, of course, I have so many. I could easily list John McClane, The Terminator, Dutch from Predator and countless others. However, wanting to be a bit more niche and unusual than that, I opted for main man Swan from my all-time favourite film, The Warriors. You can see the original piece and full list here …

RIP Darren Shahlavi (1972-2015)

I am extremely shocked and saddened to hear about Darren’s passing. He was a great and genuine person, a true talent and a real source of inspiration. He was always very kind and supportive of me and my projects. I was (and am) exceptionally proud to have him included in Life of Action. Now, I’m saddened that I won’t get to share the finished book with him. His work and accomplishments will always remain his legacy and I only hope he …

Remembering Mortal Kombat: Conquest

The long awaited TV series which ran between 1998-99 gets a complete series DVD release in 2015. Great news for Mortal Kombat fans. The original Mortal Kombat: Conquest series, which acted as a prequel to the MK mythology popularised in the video games and earlier movies, starred a wide range of talent including Paolo Montalbán, Daniel Bernhardt and Kristanna Loken. Plus, world-famous stunt and fight coordinator J.J. Perry played Sub-Zero in a couple of episodes, offering a rare chance to see …
