Guest on Double Page Spread Podcast

I was very happy to be invited as a guest on the Double Page Spread podcast (episode 123) to discuss writing Life of Action, its featured stars and filmmakers, movies, my own film work, the state of the action industry and a range of other topics. Big thanks to host Wendi Freeman for having me! You can listen here.

Jason Momoa on the Road to Paloma

I’m a big fan of Jason Momoa. The star of Conan the Barbarian, Game of Thrones and Bullet to the Head has more than proven his acting and action chops and played an interesting range of roles throughout his career, from heroes, villains, barbarians, even warriors with a vulnerable side. Plus, the props he’s received from action teams like 87Eleven really cements the image of true, hardworking talent. It’s great to see someone with that mindset and work ethic doing so well and it …

Terracotta’s Classic Kung Fu Collection

Terracotta Distribution is going from strength to strength with the next release in their relatively new “Classic Kung Fu Collection” already announced. The label has been filling something of a void right now, unearthing forgotten gems from the vaults of late night Kung Fu cinema, and in some cases giving these titles official DVD releases for the very first time! Previous releases include Hero of Shaolin (starring Alexander Lo Rei) and The Shanghai 13 (starring Jimmy Wang Yu and Andy Lau). The third title …

Hard Rush: Interview with Gianni Capaldi

Actor Gianni Capaldi was born in Motherwell, Scotland to Italian parents and always nurtured a real passion for film. Growing up with a strong work ethic and an eye for business, he managed a string of family owned businesses in Scotland and even trendy nightclubs in LA before taking his first step into acting. His debut was the Poker mockumentary, All In, and since then he has tackled a variety of acting projects on top of his work as a …

New Trailer and Poster for The Chocolate Wrapper

In case you missed it, check out the new artwork for the forthcoming, powerful and dramatic short, The Chocolate Wrapper. You can find the trailer below. The film is based on true events which took place in South London in August 2007. In the story, Elif and her brother Evren’s routine drive home ends in tragedy when they are caught in a fatal confrontation over a chocolate wrapper. I stunt coordinated this which, despite not being an action project by …

Fight Choreography Workshop at The Biz Theatre School – March 2014

Following on from previous workshops and building on earlier sessions, I taught a new screen fighting workshop at The Biz Theatre School in Surrey. The performing arts students recapped on different strikes, reactions and “selling” for camera. We wrapped up by putting together a short fight scene in groups and then discussing what we liked and what worked in the sequences. Thanks to everyone who attended. Trailer Released For I Am Soldier

I Am Soldier follows Mickey (Tom Hughes) as he takes on the most dangerous military training known to man: SAS selection. The Special Air Service (SAS) is the United Kingdom’s most renowned Special Forces regiment, tasked with missions in some of the most dangerous places on the planet. Mickey is smashed by the selection process, not only physically but mentally and emotionally, from torturous tabs over the steepest mountains, running for his life on ‘Escape and Evasion’ missions and enduring the …

Behind the Scenes on The Thompsons

This is taken from the special features on the DVD release of The Thompsons from Lionsgate. This is a featurette focusing purely on the fight choreography in the film, featuring interviews with Mark Strange and myself, as well as others from the cast and crew. I had a great time working on this one with a very talented team. Remember, you can buy the film from Amazon here.

RIP Wu Ma (1942-2014)

I was very sad to hear about the passing of iconic Hong Kong actor Wu Ma. Words like “icon” and “legend” are often thrown around but very rarely do they truly resonate. However, he was a genuine figure of the HK film industry and built an exceptional and long-spanning career, even by jaw-dropping HK standards. I always enjoyed catching him in any size role in many Hong Kong action and comedy classics – whether playing a lead or simply cropping …

Skin Trade boasts insane cast

Following some enticing stills and behind the scenes shots from the set of new action/thriller, Skin Trade, fans have been quick to respond and the anticipation is already building. Filming is well underway in Thailand and the production now boats a cast which, frankly, is nothing short of insane. The film will star Dolph Lundgren, Tony Jaa, Ron Perlman, Michael Jai White, Celina Jade, Peter Weller, Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa and another major star, who has not yet been revealed. It’s …

Banshee Chapter has arrived

Here’s one for all the horror fans out there! The awesome and terrifying Banshee Chapter is out on DVD and VOD from 27 January 2014 courtesy of my friends at Intense Distribution. The film was even winner of Total Film’s Scariest Movie Award at Film4 FrightFest 2013 and earned a great audience response. In the story, Anne Roland, a young journalist with an appetite for controversy, follows the trail of a strange government research chemical that might have caused the death of …

A Brief History of Universal Soldier

Looking back to the tough, no-nonsense 1992 original, the first Universal Soldier film was a thrilling blend of sci-fi and martial arts action as two major genre stars, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren, fronted one of their all-time biggest hits. They played two regenerated dead soldiers continuing their rivalry even when resurrected as assets in an illegal government scheme. The movie boasted great production values, a good story, quality action and a strong soundtrack, notably the Ice-T fronted Body Count track “Body Count’s in …
