From Life of Action II…
Rising star Amy Johnston is one of the most physically skilled actresses working in the action genre. Born in Van Nuys, California and raised in a small town in Wyoming, she was thrust into a world of martial arts, carving her future from a very early age. The daughter of world kickboxing champion David Johnston, her training and work ethic was nurtured from the start, inspiring a lifelong passion for martial arts and cinema.
Testing herself in national competitions, an early appearance in a kids’ instructional karate video opened Amy’s eyes to a world of filmmaking. With a passion for performing, she moved to Hollywood as a teenager and set her sights on a film career. In time, she met and collaborated with various production teams, becoming a YouTube star through popular videos like Amy vs Many, Amy vs 7 and Dragon Ball Z: Light of Hope, many of which went viral.
Moving into stunts and utilising her broad physical skill set, major credits include Iron Man 3, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Deadpool 1 & 2 and hit video game franchises like Uncharted, Tomb Raider and Call of Duty.
Still, fusing acting and action remained the ultimate goal and she has devoted time and energy to acting workshops, alongside time in the gym. She landed her first lead role in Lady Bloodfight, a tough, female re-imagining of the classic Bloodsport format, and followed this with character-driven action roles in Female Fight Club and Accident Man, proving her versatility playing anything from heroines to ruthless killers.
She also wrote the book, How to Stunt in Hollywood: Insight and Advice from World Class Stunt Professionals, in which she interviews many of her colleagues in the business on their own rituals and experiences. Representing a new generation of star with a career crossing the internet, film, television and video games, she shows no sign of slowing down.
