Art of Action Screenings at Kiln Theatre
As part of the BFI's Art of Action season, I will be hosting some special screenings and Q&As at London's prestigious Kiln Theatre, presented in partnership with community screening group Filmscope CIC. I had a great time hosting a screening for Bruce Lee’s classic Way of the Dragon earlier this year, so it will be fun to return.
On 16 October, we have a screening of Stanley Tong’s Rumble in the Bronx, followed by a talk on the significance and impact of the film, and how it helped establish Jackie Chan to a western audience. [D/deaf and hard of hearing friendly]
On 23 October, there will be a special screening of 80’s classic Yes, Madam! After this, I will be joined by stunt coordinator Jude Poyer (Gangs of London, Farang) hearing what the film means to him, how it inspired his own work, and his memories and stories working in Hong Kong with the late, great director, Corey Yuen.
With Filmscope’s Re:Action! Season, dive into the thrilling world of Asian Action Cinema as we explore the legendary history, influence and evolution of stunt performance. This bespoke season is a cinematic celebration featuring iconic filmmakers and stars, from the visionary Akira Kurosawa to the unstoppable Michelle Yeoh!
Prepare for pulse-pounding showdowns in films like Seven Samurai, Sister Street Fighter, Yes, Madam! and Rumble in the Bronx. Each screening showcases groundbreaking stunts and visually stunning storytelling that have redefined the genre. And experience the films as they were meant to be seen, in their original languages!
