Guest on I Must Break This Podcast for Castle Falls
I was really happy to be invited back for episode 81 of I Must Break This Podcast, the only podcast dedicated to the career of action cinema legend, Dolph Lundgren, who I also interviewed in my original book, Life of Action. I had previously joined the show on episodes 11 and 51, to talk about his 1994 sports thriller, Pentathlon, and outlaw action-thriller Missionary Man, respectively.
For the latest episode, they wrote: “On this month’s episode, we’re looking at the most recent effort from both Dolph Lundgren and Scott Adkins, Castle Falls! Yes, we realise that we’re jumping way ahead in the filmography of Dolph, but this film is just too cool to not discuss now! In fact, not only is Dolph in front of the camera, but he also steps behind the camera once again, marking his return to directing in ten years (not to mention his sixth starring/directing gig).
In this throwback to the action films of the ’80’s and ’90’s, Lundgren and Adkins play two regular working class men with some very real money problems. However, over $3 million that is ripe for the taking sits in an abandoned hospital that is ready to be demolished. Standing in their way though is a gang of deadly thieves who are also laying claim to the loot… how did the onset of Covid hamper and help this film’s production? How do Dolph and Scott Adkins do re-teaming once again? And in what ways does this film stand head and shoulders above all the other films currently being released in the DTV action genre?”
This was a lot of fun to record and particularly if, like me, you know yourself to be a fan of Dolph’s directorial output, this is well worth a listen. Plus, don’t forget to support the film through purchase or rental. Shooting this was, by all accounts, a very tough undertaking, yet what emerged is an intimate and character-driven action-thriller, somewhat different from the type of throwaway action you might expect.
Thanks to Sean Malloy for having me back! And don’t forget you can also pickup my Life of Action books, merch and find out more. Check out the shop page for more information.
