Steve McQuillan shares Life of Action II
New Zealand stunt coordinator Steve McQuillan (Guns Akimbo, The Gunman, 6 Days) and founder of the stunt company, ActionHouse, shared a picture with his copy of Life of Action II.
It’s a great honour to have him in the book. At an earlier point, he even revealed that he has been approached many times in the past to talk about his years spent working on major films and TV shows, and he hadn’t opened up to share these stories and insights until now. So many of these anecdotes will be heard for the first time from a pivotal time in film and television production history.
He said, “I have been approached over the years by a number of magazine and book companies to talk about action and the stunt industry within New Zealand... I have never gone through with the interviews until I was contacted by Mike Fury, the author of Life of Action, whose first book was truly awe-inspiring and showcased some of the industry’s big hitters and the paths they took to succeed in this industry.”
Don’t forget, the latest book is available now.
From Life of Action
Born in Auckland, New Zealand in 1968, the young Steve McQuillan was raised on sports and movies from an early age. Taking up the relatively new martial art of taekwondo as a teen, he maintained rigorous training to eventually earn the rank of fourth degree black belt and grew up to be an international coach and competitor. Ultimately, by pure chance, his passions would collide, leading him to a new path as a stuntman and now one of the top coordinators in the Pacific region.
Cutting his teeth as a stunt player in the iconic Lord of the Rings movies, he also worked on major TV shows engrained in popular culture, including several Power Rangers series, Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules: The Legend Continues. Since those formative years, he has worked globally as a coordinator. His diverse movie credits include The Gunman, 6 Days, Hellboy and The Light Between Oceans, while coordinating acclaimed documentaries like McLaren and Beyond the Edge, the latter charting the historical ascent of Mt. Everest in 1953.
Now the founder of his own stunt company, ActionHouse, Steve and his team are in demand all over the world and collaborate on a growing range of film and television projects. With his extensive knowledge spanning wires and rigging, fight design, vehicles, horses, falls and training, Steve’s career is a lesson in hard graft while always maintaining a sharp and diverse skill set.
