The Way of the Dragon Special Screening + Q&A
I had a great time giving a talk and Q&A after a special 4K screening of Bruce Lee’s classic, The Way of the Dragon. The event took place on 27 February at London's prestigious Kiln Theatre, presented in partnership with community screening group Filmscope CIC for D/deaf and hard of hearing audiences, as well anyone who loves kung fu cinema! I enjoyed breaking down the history of this iconic film, the context in which it was made, and where it sits in Bruce Lee’s career.
In Bruce Lee's well-loved directorial debut, Tang Lung (Lee) is sent from the countryside of Hong Kong to Rome in order to help a family friend whose restaurant is being threatened by local thugs. Infusing comedy and full of dazzling action set pieces, this is one of Lee’s most personal and ambitious projects, and the last film he saw released before his tragic early death (his next film would sadly be his last, the international hit, Enter the Dragon, which was released posthumously). This is superb action cinema now beautifully restored to its high-kicking glory, the perfect opportunity to celebrate the life of the Little Dragon.
